Panicum virgatum 'Rehbraun’

Upright and arching, this cultivar has a vivid showing of a rich true red (rot-red, strahl-rays) in autumn. As compared to other red switch grasses it is shorter at 48” with slightly finer foliage.  It is also the most upright.  ‘Rotstrahlbush’ is one of the oldest and truest selections and has stood the test of time for hardiness.  The flowers (seed heads) are burgundy.  It is tolerant of a wide range of soils but prefers moist soil.  Clumping to an obedient 3’.  It remains upright through the winter though it turns shades of yellow at autumn’s end. It has nice winter bones. (syn. Panicum v. Hanse Herms)
